glock tuning

Glock Tuning - GLOCK's polymer pistols have been on the market for nearly 40 years, and have enjoyed phenomenal success there. For one of the best-selling pistols in the world, the conversion scene and aftermarket offer a similarly large number of accessories. See what you can put on a GLOCK.

Hardly any other gun on the market offers as many accessory options as the GLOCK. Shows what adjustments can be made for an Austrian polymer frame pistol.

There are many tools and devices available on the market to help disassemble Glock pistols: one of them is Truglow's Mag Wrench (right), which helps remove the magazine by pressing a metal pin into the corresponding opening at the bottom of the magazine. does. magazine and then sliding it down

Millions of GLOCK pistols have been sold and the fifth generation of the pistol is now available, making it one of the best-selling pistols in the world. Released as a military firearm in the 1980s, with its polymer grip frame it continues to prove itself today as a law enforcement firearm for many police forces around the world. Sport shooters and hunters also love the inexpensive Austrian GLOCK. Although regular full-size models are not match pistols, they are used by many shooters - in IPSC production grade. The GLOCK is not suitable for static targeting fields, as its equipment, especially the trigger, is not suitable here. However, GLOCK's large tuning scene and aftermarket now offer the possibility of optimizing almost any pistol for tactical, dynamic or static ranges. Aside from a pure desire to improvise, many people are simply inspired by the spirit of DYI. After all, anyone already messing around with model airplanes or electric trains will appreciate the simple GLOCK design and many plug-in, click-and-screw aftermarket parts.

In principle, any generation of Glock pistols can be adjusted. But the tuner specifically recommends the Gen3 model - as do Dirk Frey (Waffenwelt) and Rolf B. Fischlein (RBF). Both gentlemen have many years of experience modifying Austrian pistols at their companies. Aside from the fact that Gen3 frames simply offer more content, there's a very simple reason to favor this model: the aftermarket offers the most options here. Tuners give Gen4 models a wide berth because there are technical issues, especially early models, and many tuning parts don't fit.

, says Dirk Frey from Waffenwelt. The tuning market is huge by any measure. For almost every ingredient, there are alternatives on the market. New trigger assemblies and new sights are especially useful for many shooters, and they aren't that expensive either.

There are many suppliers in the market who specialize in producing complete trigger kits. The ZEV Pro Trigger (unpacked) includes a new trigger shoe, safety blade included, and complete linkage. A high-quality fulcrum trigger (right) has an additional titanium striker dedicated to it.

Trigger adjustment is a common and perhaps one of the most necessary adjustments, at least if you want to use a GLOCK for sport. While you won't get the same performance from an action match pistol with a safety trigger, it can be significantly improved in character and weight. The easiest method is the so-called "25 cent trigger job". Here, the contact surface of the trigger link – where friction occurs – is polished to reduce mechanical friction. But at most, it improves the trigger characteristics, not the trigger weight, because the spring weight doesn't change. This is why many tuners also focus directly on the springs, as changing them can significantly reduce the trigger pull.

Waffenwelt offers a tuned spring kit for the ZEV in their catalog, which should provide a significant reduction in trigger pull for a small amount. In addition to the adapter, the striker spring, trigger spring, and safety spring were replaced (the trigger spring was not replaced on the Gen5). However, Dirk Frey recommends always relying on one supplier when replacing springs, rather than trying to match springs from different aftermarket companies to a single trigger. There is a large aftermarket in the spring industry and there should be a viable solution for everyone. In addition to ZEV, companies such as Ghost, Taran Tactical, and Wolff can also be listed here. RBF International also offers GLOCK trigger kits. The aftermarket offers complete kits (Lone Wolf, Apex Tactical, ZEV, etc.), especially for more complex trigger adjustments, including adjustable triggers with aluminum baseplates and partial finishes. Therefore, a complete ZEV fulcrum trigger kit including a titanium striker can sometimes be sold over the counter in the European market for around 450 euros.

One of the easiest ways to upgrade a pistol, and possibly the most useful, is to equip it with new sights. The factory rear sight with its white-outline rectangular notch can only move rearward, and the interplay with the solid, wide front sight ensures the best possible light differential. Choosing the proper sight depends largely on the intended application: if the shooter wants to compete in a dynamic discipline, or if the gun is needed for self-defense, tactical sights make sense. Their overall height is usually low. This makes them easier to holster. And their geometry has been trimmed for faster target acquisition. There are also hybrid types that include adjustable backstraps and strike a balance between carry and match needs. In the tactical segment, manufacturers include Dawson Precision, Warren Tactical, and Taran Tactical Innovations.

Likewise, the aftermarket offers fully adjustable match sights (LPA sights) as well as sights with colored fiber optic or tritium inserts (Truglo, Hiviz, Novak) designed for poor visibility conditions. Even with the GLOCK MOS models introduced with the OR adapter plate, the market is already offering an additional innovation: tuners from RBF International have developed their own place forward on the slide. For this purpose, they specifically incorporated a dovetail slot into a conventional MOS cover plate material. This allows shooters to always choose between red dot and fully adjustable match sights and to quickly and easily change plates as needed. In Part 1, we discussed customizing and upgrading GLOCK triggers and sights. Now we'll take a look at what the aftermarket and tuning experts have to offer in terms of frames, weights, springs, barrels and more.

RBF International uses third generation GLOCK grips for their tuning work. The frame can also be painted a specific color at the client's request, as these Gen3 examples show.

In five generations of GLOCK manufacturing, design changes have not slipped through the frame/grip without a trace. This component, perhaps the most important to the shooter's ergonomics, has received the most attention from GLOCK in the past three model updates. As the third generation model changed, GLOCK introduced grip grooves on the front strap and added thumb grooves on the top of the frame for later generations. The fourth generation – in addition to internal innovations such as a different recoil spring design – once again features a new grip, now with two additional strap adapters.

This made it possible for the first time to adjust the grip size to the shooter's hand. Still, some shooters complain about the width of the grip and disagree on the angle of the grip. By the way, the same applies to surface textures. The first two generations of GLOCKs are slightly rougher when they leave the factory. By Gen 3, guns were more structured than finger grooves. Still, many shooters still feel that the Rough Texture Framework (RTF) released in 2009 and the ever-evolving surface textures (RTF2 and RTF3 patterns) don't hold enough. Perhaps this is the reason why all kinds of shooters, especially those with moving subjects, work on grip optimization depending on the texture of the surface.

To make the GLOCK's basic polymer frame even thicker, there are three common modifications found on the market: applying skateboard tape, laser engraving new textures and so-called stapling. The advantage of tapes such as Decal Grip or simple rubber overlays from Hogue or Pachmayr is that they are not permanent changes to the handle - laser texturing or stippling sometimes requires machining into the material a few millimeters deep. Therefore, potential clients should inform themselves in advance whether the intervention also complies with the rules of the game. Stippling is one of the more common methods.
